Heathcote Renewables was engaged to deliver a full package of enabling works, civils support, and site infrastructure services for a nationally significant solar energy project located on the North Kent Peninsula. The scheme spans over 800 acres and forms part of the UK’s growing commitment to clean, large-scale renewable energy generation.

The Challenge
This high-profile solar development presented several key challenges:
- Environmentally Sensitive Location
The site is located within a coastal and agricultural landscape of significant ecological importance. Strict planning controls were in place to preserve biodiversity, minimise habitat disturbance, and manage run-off and ground stability. - Unstable and Variable Ground Conditions
The soil profile across the site included soft clays and low-bearing capacity ground in places, which presented difficulties for traditional piling methods and risked long-term structural settlement if not addressed correctly. - Tight Programme and Multi-Contractor Coordination
A phased programme required rapid mobilisation and delivery of works across multiple zones, with careful coordination between groundworks, piling, and mechanical installation teams. Any delays would risk impacting downstream electrical works and overall grid connection targets. - Access and Logistics
